The Challenge
Innings Festival is a multi-day music and baseball festival held annually at Tempe Beach Park, drawing over 15,000 attendees per day. The festival organizers needed a portable sanitation partner capable of managing high-volume restroom traffic across a sprawling outdoor venue — with VIP areas, general admission zones, and backstage crew areas all requiring different levels of service.
Previous years had seen guest complaints about long restroom lines during headliner sets and insufficient units in high-traffic zones near food vendors. The organizers came to Primeway Porta Potty Rental Phoenix with a clear mandate: zero overflow and zero complaints.
Our Assessment
We conducted a site walkthrough at Tempe Beach Park three weeks before the festival. Key findings:
- Five distinct zones requiring restroom coverage: main stage, second stage, food court, VIP lounge, and backstage
- Peak concurrent attendance estimated at 12,000+ during headliner performances
- Alcohol service across all zones (requiring the 1-per-35 formula)
- ADA accessibility required at all public restroom clusters
- VIP ticket holders expecting a premium restroom experience
- Service truck access limited during event hours — all servicing needed to happen between midnight and 8 AM
The Solution
We designed a phased deployment with the following unit allocation:
- 40 standard porta potties — distributed across general admission zones in clusters of 8–10
- 6 ADA-compliant units — one per restroom cluster, placed on level ground with accessible approach paths
- 4 luxury restroom trailers (8-station each) — two in the VIP lounge, one backstage, one near the main stage VIP viewing area
- 10 portable hand wash stations — positioned at every restroom cluster and adjacent to food vendor areas
- 8 holding tanks — connected to high-traffic standard unit clusters to extend service intervals
Deployment Timeline
- Thursday 6 AM – 2 PM: All standard units, ADA units, sinks, and holding tanks delivered and positioned
- Thursday 2 PM – 6 PM: Luxury trailers delivered, connected to generators
- Thursday evening: Final walkthrough with festival operations team, minor repositioning based on updated stage layout
- Friday–Sunday midnight–8 AM: Full overnight servicing of all units — pump, clean, restock, deodorize
- Monday 8 AM – 4 PM: Complete teardown and removal

Results
Post-event surveys showed a 98% satisfaction rate for restroom facilities — a dramatic improvement from prior years. The VIP luxury trailers received particular praise, with multiple attendees noting they were "better than the restrooms at most venues." Zero overflow incidents occurred across all three days despite peak attendance exceeding projections by 8%.
💡 Key Takeaway
Large festival sanitation success comes down to three factors: accurate unit count calculations with alcohol-adjusted formulas, strategic zone-based placement, and reliable overnight servicing. Holding tanks proved critical for extending service windows in high-traffic clusters where overnight-only access was available.
